The goal of this project was to reduce the stormwater runoff in southeast Atlanta. Under the Southeast Atlanta Green Infrastructure Initiative, DWM developed a holistic approach to flood mitigation and identified short-term and long-term projects to address flooding concerns within the Custer Avenue Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) basin. Permeable pavers provided a solution to reduce flooding since it captures stormwater runoff. They chose to use pavers manufactured by Belgard. The project encompasses nearly approximately six miles of permeable pavers in Peoplestown, Mechanicsville, and Summerhill communities. The newly installed system has captured nearly 5 million gallons of storm water runoff in the city and continues to perform as planned. The city was satisfied with the project outcome and this project was a HNA Awards recipient.
